Wondering how to fix your smile? Let’s take a closer look at what cosmetic dentistry is and how it can help.
Cosmetic dentistry is a term used in any dental work that improves the appearance of a person’s teeth, gums, and smile. It focuses primarily on improving dental aesthetics in the color, position, shape, size, alignment and overall appearance of the smile.
There are three main dental specialties that focus on dental aesthetics. They are prosthodontics, orthodontics and periodontics.
Cosmetic dentistry includes:
1.Teeth whitening: It is a quick and simple procedure that is harmless to the tooth structure. The whitening material is applied to the teeth releasing oxygen. The end result is teeth with a brighter color. It is a safe procedure when performed under the supervision of a dentist.
2. If a space remains after the completion of permanent dentistry, it will become permanent and can only be corrected with the help of the dentist. Orthodontics is always recommended as a treatment option. However, the use of veneers or bonding can bring about the desired result.
3.Correction of crowded teeth: Treatment options include orthodontics, tooth reconstruction, veneers, bonding and crowns.
4. Treatment of gummy smile or excessive gum appearance. Treatment may include: 1. Orthodontics 2. Surgery of the gingival tissues and bone for healthier and more aesthetically pleasing gum contours.
5. The use of resins or porcelain for posterior white fillings: To restore the natural color and appearance of posterior teeth with cavities or amalgam fillings, the dentist may use composite resin or porcelain fillings (inlays and/or veneers).
6. The use of bonding and veneers. The final result looks and functions like the original tooth or better. Bonding is typically used for cosmetic purposes to restore and improve the appearance of a person’s smile. Porcelain veneers are thin pieces of special porcelain used to restore the natural appearance of teeth. They are a very successful option in cases where the patient wishes to correct and improve the color, shape and contour of the tooth. They are also a good choice for broken teeth, for filling gaps between teeth and for permanently white teeth.
7. The use of porcelain crowns or bridges without metal for better aesthetics: Metal-free alternatives such as IPS Emax and Zirconia (ZrO2) ceramic substrates for crowns and bridges. These work to the maximum extent to deliver the desired aesthetics and are very durable.
Improving your smile can be beneficial for you because:
1) It improves the way you communicate
2)Communicates your good intentions to others
